A penalty miss from Sorba Thomas meant Boreham Wood had to settle for a point in a 1-1 draw at home to Hartlepool United.

Kabongo Tshimanga smashed home after less than a minute to put Wood in front, but Gime Toure levelled less than a minute into the second half before Thomas saw hit spot-kick stopped by Ben Killip.

The draw sees Luke Garrard’s side replaced in the top three by Yeovil Town as they drop down a place to fourth.

With Harrogate Town in FA Trophy action, Wood had a perfect opportunity to close the gap on the two in the National League table, and they got off to the required start when Tshimanga was the first to react as Matt Rhead’s header was pushed onto the post, slamming in from close range.

Tyrone Marsh should have doubled the home side’s lead before the break when he headed narrowly wide from a corner, and they were then lucky to go into the break in front as Nathan Ashmore did well to keep out Mark Shelton’s effort.

A fast start from Hartlepool in the second half saw them level proceedings quickly as Toure rifled home an equaliser.

Wood had the chance to restore their lead just two minutes later when they were awarded a penalty, but a lazy run up from Thomas allowed Killip time to guess correctly and make the save.

Mark Ricketts rattled the post with a powerful drive and Marsh later had an effort ruled out for offside, but the hosts could not find a winner.

Next up for Garrard’s side is a trip to local rivals Barnet tomorrow night, kicking off at 7.45pm.
