Boreham Wood travel to Dover Athletic on Tuesday evening (kick-off 7.45pm) and manager Luke Garrard says the Whites are an example to follow for part-time clubs.

Chris Kinnear’s side reached the National League play-offs last season only to narrowly lose out to Forest Green Rovers, the side Wood defeated on Saturday at Meadow Park.

Dover were one of two part-time clubs to finish in the top five with the other being Danny Cowley's Braintree Town. While Garrard isn’t expecting to replicate their success, he admires what they did last season against all expectations.

“100 per cent Dover are a club to look up to who have had success on a limited budget,” said Garrard following Saturday’s 1-0 win over FGR. “You look at what them and Braintree Town achieved and it was phenomenal.

“They play in a certain way and they get joy from it. We’ve got to go there and do what we did today; play on the front foot and take the game to them and we will go from there.”

Garrard will be without attacking midfielder Daniel Uchechi but there is better news as Anthony Jeffrey will be back in the squad after missing Saturday’s game against his parent club.

The winger re-joined Boreham Wood on a season-long loan from Rovers this summer and was therefore forced to sit Saturday's game out.

“I would have liked to have AJ earlier but I’ve been listening to my physio (Megan Reid) and I have to respect her,” said Garrard after Jeffrey returned from injury with a goal against Hemel Hempstead Town in Wood’s final pre-season friendly.

“There was a nine-week programme post operation and she was very strict on that. I’m glad because the idea was for him to have a full season. Bruno Andrade has pace but AJ has blistering pace and he turns defence to attack and travels with the ball very well.”

Meanwhile, Garrard will hope to call upon centre-back David Stephens once more after he was substituted late in the Forest Green win as a precaution.

If Stephens does miss out, then Joe Devera would be the obvious candidate to take his place with either Danny Woodards or Femi Ilesanmi coming in at left-back.

Dover kicked off the new National League campaign with a goalless draw at Wrexham on Saturday. There is no lack of firepower at The Crabble – especially after the capture of Moses Emmanuel last week.

The forward netted 19 times for Bromley last season, scoring in the Ravens’ 3-2 win at Meadow Park in October which prompted a switch to daytime training.

He repeated that trick at Hayes Lane in the reverse fixture but Wood, by then under Garrard’s stewardship, ran out 2-1 winners thanks to Luke Howell’s early double.

Emmanuel, who also netted 15 times for Bromley as they pipped Wood to the National League South title in 2015, previously played for Dover for two seasons but managed just six strikes in 36 starts.

He was one of four new faces signed on two days before the start of the season with former Crystal Palace defender Jahmal Howlett-Mundle, striker Ira Jackson Jnr and one-time Welling United manager turned Dover fitness coach Loui Fazakerley signing on.
