FA Cup giant killers Eastleigh visit Boreham Wood on Saturday as both sides return to National League action after an extended break.

Inclement weather and our visitors’ FA Cup exploits mean Wood will be in league action for the first time in a fortnight whilst the Spitfires’ last league match was on December 28.

Eastleigh overcame League One side Crewe Alexandra in round one before holding Championship strugglers Bolton Wanderers at home with a 1-1 draw in round three.

They finally exited the competition after going ahead at the Macron Stadium on Tuesday evening, only to lose 3-2.

Eastleigh gained National League status, like, Wood via the Conference South play-offs the season before last.

But they have quickly established themselves as one of the major forces in non-league football and are currently fifth in the table with games in hand over their nearest rivals owing to their cup run.

It is an impressive record of just four defeats in 30 on the road which compliments their high league position. Since Chris Todd took over from Richard Hill in October he has yet to taste defeat on the road, overseeing nine wins and two draws.

James Constable will be the main threat for the visitors. He has 14 goals to his name this season – double the amount of his nearest teammate.

Constable was on target when the two sides last met in August, netting the only goal of the game in the 90th minute at The Silverlake Stadium.

A glance at the current form shows Eastleigh have garnered 20 points out of the last available 27, scoring 17 goals. By contrast Wood have picked up just ten points in the same period, finding the net on just four occasions.

However, manager Luke Garrard will have two new strikers available for the game after beefing up his forward options in the last fortnight.

Jamie Lucas returns until the end of the season for his third loan spell from Bristol Rovers.

He is still Wood’s leading marksman with his four goals all scored earlier this season. Delano Sam-Yorke joins on loan from Forest Green Rovers for the remainder of the campaign and could make his debut against the Spitfires.

Those two are complimented by Jordan Chiedozie who impressed on his debut in Wood’s last outing, a 0-0 draw against League leaders Cheltenham Town, before succumbing to injury.
