Whilst Luke Garrard was masterminding a 2-1 victory for Boreham Wood at Bromley on Tuesday night, FA Cup first round replay opponents Northwich Victoria were helping themselves to another scalp from higher opposition.

And in some style, too.

Vics boss Jim Gannon rested three of the side which earned a 1-1 draw at The Help For Heroes Stadium three days earlier against the Wood, but it did nothing to halt their progress in the League Cup. Up against Northern Premier League opposition in Skelmersdale United, the Green and Whites delivered a 6-1 win.

That makes it 20 wins from 26 competitive matches this season for the Cheshire outfit, who according to their assistant manager Dave Conlon: “Have a fully fit squad and no suspensions at the moment due to our excellent disciplinary record, so we have almost two players for every position.

"The starting 11 is not weakened no matter what team is selected.”

Food for thought for Garrard, whose excellent use of his available squad helped to mastermind that important and impressive victory south of London before Saturday’s stalemate at home to Chester.

Looking ahead to Monday’s first round replay, Garrard said last Saturday: “They are in no way shape or form a Northern League Division One side.

“Their League position shows that as did their performance. I thought they were the better side over 90 minutes and we are pleased to have another shot at them.”

With victories at Hyde United, also of the Northern Premier League, and National League North Chorley already in the FA Cup this season, Wood will need to be at their very best to earn the right to take on League Two high fliers Northampton Town at Sixfields on December 5 in round two.
