Boreham Wood manager Ian Allinson believes their 2-0 win at Tranmere highlights the massive progress his team has made in a short space of time.

Wood pulled off a superb victory on Saturday against a side that started the day second in the National League. Allinson’s side upset the odds and claimed a second win of the season following their promotion.

Allinson said: “The calibre of players we have brought in have played at this level and higher. This result shows just how far we’ve come as a team.

“It has to be up their as the biggest league game the club has played but we have massive matches coming all the time against the likes of Grimsby and Woking.”

He added: “The players were fantastic on the day. We nullified their strengths and scored two really good goals.

“It is a great achievement going to a Tranmere side, with a crowd of nearly 5,000, that were in the Football League last season and winning. It’s a fantastic achievement.”

The transfer window shuts next week but Allinson is more than happy with the size and quality of his squad.

He said: “We have got 20 players in our squad which is probably the biggest we’ve had. At the moment I’m more than comfortable with the squad that we’ve got.”

Allinson’s side face a tough home game against in-form Woking on Saturday before a trip to Dover on Bank Holiday Monday.

He said: “Woking are in good form sitting second and having won four games on the trot but we’re confident we can cause an upset.”
