Boreham Wood cruised to a 4-0 win over Biggleswade Town in their penultimate pre-season fixture on Saturday, easing to a comfortable victory at the Southern League Premier Division outfit thanks to Matty Whichelow's brace.

And Wood dominated the game from start to finish and had the possession you would expect from a side two divisions higher. Ian Allinson ensured he got minutes into all his squad ahead of Saturday's National League opener against FC Halifax Town.

Wood’s first effort came after a mistake by Hunter allowed Graeme Montgomery to burst towards goal, although off-balance his shot was off target.

A good understanding was being formed between the Wood midfield and another Montgomery chance went astray when the winger headed over.

Hosts Biggleswade offered little threat but a rate chance saw Billy Clifford clear straight to Merson, who took a touch before firing over.

Wood's trialist looked lively and he broke up play well to make a chance for captain Charlie MacDonald, who could not quite get enough power into his cut-back.

The opening goal came in the 32nd minute. Luke Garrard found Montgomery, who put a great ball in the box and it was Whichelow who was unmarked to poke the ball into the net.

Biggleswade's best chance of the half came just on half time, a ball in from the right found an unmarked Wader who could not steer his header on target.

Wood forward Junior Morias had a chance to double the lead just after the break when a ball over the top was misjudged by the Waders' defence and Brown was forced into a good save.

It was trialist Harry Crawford, though, who doubled Wood’s advantage.

A poor pass out from Brown in the Biggleswade goal allowed the former Barnet striker the opportunity to stide forward and fire home.

Montgomery then stung the palms of Brown with a great strike from 25 yards out which was matched with a fine save from Brown.

The chances continued to flow and a great one-two between Sam Cox and Whichelow gave Cox plenty of space down the right-hand flank, his floated ball in found Morias and the stocky frontman headed down into the ground where keeper Brown saved.

Wood’s third goal soon followed. A corner from Whichelow found Callum Reynolds at the near post and the defender glanced a header past Brown.

Soon after Merson had a great chance to get one back for the home side. Josh Hill completely missed his header and from just inside the box Merson failed to find the target.

Wood responded when Morias got clipped 25 yards out to win a free-kick. Former Watford winger Whichelow took the free kick forced a good save from Brown who tipped over.

It was four soon after, a mazy little run from Montgomery allowed the wideman to find Whichelow, he took a touch and simply slotted past Brown.

Speaking afterwards Wood boss Allinson said: “I was pleased with the performance today and after the Arsenal cancellation it was great to get much needed minutes into all of my squad.

"We had a trialist in today, and I will be knocking on the chairman's door to see if a deal can be done. The squad is really taking shape now and I am happy where we are going into the league opener next Saturday."

Boreham Wood host Hayes and Yeading tonight (Monday) and looking ahead to the fixture, Allinson said: "It gives me a chance to get some minutes into those that need it and also gives me a chance to have a final look before selecting my XI for the opening day of the season."
