Boreham Wood will face an Arsenal XI on Friday night at Meadow Park, as they continue their preparations for the upcoming National League season.

The Wood open their National League campaign against Halifax Town on Saturday, August 8 at Meadow Park and have endured a mixed pre-season to date, with two draws and one defeat in their opening three matches.

This will not be the first time that Ian Allinson’s men have played against the Gunners in pre-season, with the two meeting regularly in pre-season in recent years. The Gunners’ ladies and youth sides all play at Wood’s Meadow Park.

The Wood held Arsenal to a 2-2 draw in a friendly at Meadow Park last season and defeated the Gunners 3-0 in 2013.

Looking back on further encounters between the two sides, Boreham Wood were on the end of a 7-1 defeat to the Premier League giants in 2011 and were also beaten 3-0 in 2010.

The match against Arsene Wenger’s side will aid Allinson’s men in their preparations for the upcoming National League Season and Wood fans could see a new signing in action on Friday.

Former Barnet and Leyton Orient striker Charlie McDonald is expected to play some part in Friday’s test for Allinson’s men – the 34-year-old is one of six new signings this summer but has yet to make his debut as he recovers from knee surgery.
