Boreham Wood have made experienced defender Dan Woodards their first addition since winning promotion to the National League.

The 31-year-old is comfortable at either right or left-back and joins Ian Allinson's men having racked up more than 250 appearances in the Football League.

Woodards, who was born in Forest Gate, began his professional career with Chelsea - without making a senior appearance - before moving to Conference side Exeter City in 2005 on a non-contract basis.

A regular at St James' Park, Woodards moved to League One side Crewe Alexandra for a sum of £30,000 in January 2007 to link up with Dario Gradi.

He then made the switch to MK Dons in July 2009 after establishing himself as a key part of the Alexandra defence during a two-and-a-half-year stint in Cheshire.

After turning down a new contract at Stadiummk, Woodards linked up with Bristol City in August 2011 and would spend three years with the Gas prior to their relegation to the Conference.

Released as the Pirates slipped out the Football League for the first time in their history, Woodards joined Tranmere Rovers on a six-month deal last summer but only featured on six occasions before departing.
