Boreham Wood boss Ian Allinson is pleased midfielder Ricky Shakes has repaid the club’s faith after agreeing a contract to remain at Meadow Park until 2016.

The 30-year-old, who has excelled in a central midfield role this season, has inked a new contract to remain with Wood until the end of next season.

A snapped Achilles tendon in his first training session after signing in the summer of 2013 threatened not only Shakes’ Boreham Wood stay but his playing career too.

However, the former Bolton Wanderers youngster has recovered and is now thriving in Allinson’s table-topping side.

Speaking to the club website, boss Allinson said: “Ricky is huge for me and his versatility also helps me with my team selection.

“The club were very loyal to him when he got injured and I’m just delighted he has rewarded our faith in him by signing up with us again for next season.”

Chairman Danny Hunter added: “It is like a double signing for me as Rick works tirelessly, as both a PASE coach and of course as a highly regarded first team player.

“Over the last 18 month or so he has made a wonderful impression with our youth structure, with our manager, with his teammates and with my day-to-day staff and that meant it was easy for me to sit down with him and work out a deal that would suit all parties.

“The negotiation in truth was very easy, no agents were involved, just grownups in the room and it resulted I believe in a very happy player, a very happy chairman and a very happy gaffer.”

Shakes joined Wood from Ebbsfleet United in the summer of 2013 having previously spent time in the Football League with Swindon Town and Brentford.

The Brixton-born wideman began his professional career with Premier League side Bolton Wanderers, scoring once in just two outings for the Trotters.
