Arsenal Ladies have continued their recruitment drive ahead of the new Women’s Super League season with the capture of striker Chioma Ubogagu.

Meanwhile, England youth international Freda Ayisi has left the Gunners to join Birmingham City Ladies having progressed through the club’s academy.

United States international Ubogagu joins the Gunners, who play at Boreham Wood’s Meadow Park Ground, from Stanford University in the USA.

Born in Texas but raised in London, Ubogagu netted 27 times in 89 appearances during her four years at Stanford and also recorded a whopping 37 assists – putting her fourth in the college’s assist list.

Ubogagu also helped the United States Under-20s win the 2012 Women’s World Cup in Japan.

Speaking to the club website, Arsenal boss Pedro Martinez Losa said of his latest addition: “Chioma is a player I have known about from my time coaching in the United States and she is a fantastic talent.

“She is very creative and is able to make goals as well as score them. I think that she will fit in very well with us.”

Ubogagu took to Twitter to express her delight at joining Arsenal.

She said: “Excited to join @ArsenalLadies! Been a supporter of the club for years, thrilled to now be a player.”

Departing Meadow Park is England Under-23 cap Ayisi, who helped the Gunners win the FA Women’s Cup last term.

The striker made her Arsenal debut in 2013.

Blues boss David Parker told the club website: “She brings quality to Birmingham, being a young and hungry English player with an enormous amount of potential.”
