Boreham Wood manager Ian Allinson has described the league leaders’ home clash this weekend against in-form Gosport Borough as a “titanic battle”.

Wood are top of the Conference South table and although Gosport are currently seventh in the table and seven points behind them, tomorrow’s visitors have lost the fewest number of games in the league and have three matches in hand on their opponents.

Allinson told the club website: “They made it to Wembley last season in the final of the FA Trophy and are without a doubt one of the best sides we have faced this season.

“If this game is half as enjoyable as the one down there in September it will be a real treat for the fans.

“We will be brave and we are used to such challenges by now. This will be a titanic battle and we will not even be thinking about the visit of Weston-super-Mare two days after until the final whistle.”

Gosport are unbeaten away from home in the league this season and have lost just once, against League One Colchester United in the FA Cup, in the last 14 matches they have played in all competitions.

Meanwhile, Boreham Wood have been drawn away to Concord Rangers in the third qualifying round of the FA Trophy.

The game at the Aspect Arena will take place on Saturday, November 29.

The side will begin the defence of their Herts Senior Cup trophy by travelling to Hertford to take on Spartan South Midlands side Hertford Town at the start of next month.

The game is scheduled to take place on Tuesday, December 2 at 7.45pm.

Wood are four points clear at the top of the league following their 1-1 draw at Concord Rangers on Saturday.

It extended their unbeaten run in the Conference South to five matches.

Allinson’s side had to work hard to earn a point on a boggy Concord pitch after a strong second-half fightback by the hosts.

The visitors started brightly and had the first opportunity through Junior Morias but his 20-yard strike flew just past the post.

Lee Angol also set up a chance for Morias but his effort was charged down by the home defence.

However Wood grabbed a deserved breakthrough in the 33rd minute of the contest.

Morias raced past a couple of defenders before setting up Matty Whichelow. The attacker teed up Graeme Montgomery and he fired confidently past keeper Josh Vickers.

Josh Hill picked up a booking for fouling John Chiedozie which means he will suspended in the forthcoming FA Trophy tie.

The visitors had chances to double their lead early in the second half but Angol and Montgomery could not find the second goal.

Concord made a drastic improvement after the break and Steve Cawley had a 25-yard volley which flew just wide of the target.

James Russell was called into action to keep out a decent effort from Sam Collins.

The warning signs were there and Concord were rewarded with an equaliser. The visitors failed to clear the danger and Chiedozie reacted sharply to head home.

The hosts were looking the more likely winners and Russell had to be alert to tip a cross onto the post as Rangers went close to taking the lead.

Allinson’s side still offered an occasional threat on the break and Vickers recovered after a poor punch to save a shot from Ricky Shakes.

The final effort of the match fell to Whichelow but after cutting inside he blasted his fierce shot narrowly wide of the post.
