Boreham Wood are set for their toughest test of the season this weekend when they travel to Havant & Waterlooville for their top of the table Conference South clash.

Ian Allinson’s side are the early league leaders after winning six of their first ten matches.

But Havant are hot on their heels and sit just one place and point behind going into Saturday's match at West Leigh Park.

Havant will be full of confidence heading into the contest after winning five of the last six matches and the team have not lost since August.

The game sees the side with the best defence, Havant, take on a Wood team which has scored the most with 25 goals already this season.

Allinson’s team will travel to Frome Town in the third qualifying round of the FA Cup after Wood edged to a 3-2 win over East Preston on Saturday.

The hosts were facing the likelihood of a cup upset when they trailed with just 12 minutes left at Meadow Park but a spirited fightback kept their run in the competition going.

Wood made a bright start to a lively cup tie and could have easily taken the lead through Graeme Montgomery but he fired his strike over the crossbar.

The home side continued to threaten and came even closer when Matty Whichelow set up Austin Lipman but his shot struck the post.

The opening goal arrived in the 28th minute when Montgomery crossed for Lee Angol and he fired a fierce strike into the top corner of the East Preston net.

Wood had several opportunities to double their lead but but Whichelow, Angol and Josh Hill all failed to find the target.

Lipman managed to test the keeper with a well struck shot as the hosts were left frustrated by their dogged opponents.

The Sussex County Football League Division One side were putting up a real fight against the much fancied home team.

East Preston punished them as they equalised with their first chance. David Herbert broke through and rounded James Russell to level the game.

Wood were stunned seven minutes after the break when the visitors netted their second goal to take an unlikely lead.

Joe Shelley raced through on goal and slotted home to give the lower league side genuine hope of a cup scalp.

Allinson’s team responded strongly and only excellent saves from Nick Collick kept out efforts from Angol and Whichelow.

Wood grabbed the equaliser they deserved in the 78th minute of the tie. Whichelow attacked and the ball eventually fell to Angol and he tucked home their second goal.

The hosts were desperate to avoid a midweek replay and all the pressure was on the visitors in the closing stages.

The winning goal came six minutes from time when Greg Morgan’s long-range strike squirmed into the net after Collick could only spill the ball.
