Boreham Wood manager Ian Allinson described their 2-1 home defeat to Bath City as their worst performance of the season.

Wood have made a promising start to the campaign but were beaten for the first time at Meadow Park this season and Allinson had no complaints.

The Wood boss told the club website: “That was our worst performance so far this season.

“We were almost in a position to go into the break a goal ahead without playing well. We then conceded at the worst possible time.

“To then concede another after 53 minutes from a move that started with a throw in in their own half was extremely disappointing.”

Allinson continued: “To their credit Bath City did a job on us. We never came to terms with David Pratt up front who was a real handful.

“After they went ahead they did not allow us any time or space on the ball.

“There were no holes to take advantage of and we started to go long, which is not the type of game the personnel I have can play.”

The visitors went into Saturday's match with just one point from their first four games and were under pressure early on as Ricky Shakes and Lee Angol were denied by keeper Jason Mellor.

But Bath carried a threat and James Russell was forced to make a save to keep out an effort from Andy Watkins.

Wood were handed the lead after a blunder from the visiting keeper midway through the half.

The hosts launched a counter-attack after a long ball from Callum Reynolds and Ben Nunn set up Scott Thomas.

He sent in a speculative shot but Mellor was wrongfooted allowing Wood to take the lead.

Bath almost netted a quick equaliser after a mix-up in the home defence but Pratt’s shot was deflected narrowly wide of the post.

City’s equaliser came in first-half injury time when Ross Stearn’s cross was headed home by Pratt.

Wood went close at the start of the second half when Graeme Montgomery’s 35-yard strike was kept out by Mellor’s save.

Angol also headed over the bar before Bath took the lead for the first time in the match.

Pratt powered his way through the home defence and the ball fell to Stearn who fired his shot past Russell.

Wood found it very difficult to create opportunites after this goal.

But the hosts had one final chance deep into injury time when substitute Austin Lipman raced through on goal but fired wide of the target.

For the third season in a row, Arsenal and their supplier Ellisons have given Boreham Wood their coach for tomorrow’s trip to Gosport Borough to mark the annual Non League Day.

This falls on the weekend when the Premier League and Championship are not in action due to international fixtures.

Arsenal Ladies, the Development side and the Under-19 Champions League games are all played at Meadow Park.

Wood are offering Arsenal season ticket holders half price tickets to all Conference South home games this season.

Arsenal Ladies will be in action in Boreham Wood on Sunday when they take on Notts County in the semi-finals of the League Cup.

Allinson said: “As always Arsenal show their class by honouring us on ‘Non League Day’ and remembering the smaller club.

“This is another fantastic gesture from Arsenal and Ellisons to our football club and it again makes ‘Non League Day’ something special for us.

“Gosport is a tough place for us to go at the best of times and as we’ve never got a result there, this will ensure we have no excuses for not returning with a positive result.”

Wood follow up their weekend trip with a home game against Eastbourne Borough on Monday night.
