Former England bowler and current Middlesex CCC managing director of cricket Angus Fraser will officially open Shenley Village’s new artificial surface practice nets tomorrow morning.

The ceremony at Shenley Cricket Centre in Radlett Lane, which is expected to start at 10.30am, will consist of an official ribbon cutting and short speech, followed by light refreshments in the pavilion. Afterwards a junior cricket tournament, featuring Shenley Village Under-9s and Under-11s alongside invited local teams, will get underway.

Specialist coaching master-classes and side shows including a raffle and barbecue are also planned.

The four-lane practice nets facility has been made possible thanks to the Lafarge Tarmac Landfill Communities Fund. The scheme provides funding for a wide range of community and environmental projects, situated within seven miles of a Lafarge Tarmac landfill site.

In this case, there are sites in Colney Heath and Harper Lane in Radlett.

The redevelopment project provides an artificial surface covering the entire length of the wicket, with much-improved run-ups for bowlers.

The club play on Shenley’s Denis Compton Oval and can boast some of the best practice facilities in the county.
