The next instalment of the Jurassic dinosaur franchise is set for the state-of-the-art Sky Studios Elstree, in the borough of Hertsmere.

Sky Group CEO Dana Strong announced this week that filming of NBCUniversal’s 'Jurassic 4' will take place at the Sky Studios site, which is situated off the A1 Barnet By-Pass at Borehamwood and just four miles south of the M25 at South Mimms.

Although cast and plot details aren't known yet, filming of the all-new Jurassic era movie will begin filming at Sky Studios Elstree later this year.

The dinosaur blockbuster is due to hit cinema screens in the summer of 2025, according to Universal Pictures' future releases on its website.

A new 'Jurassic World' movie would become the seventh instalment of the Jurassic series in total.

Chris Pratt and Bryce Dallas Howard starred in the previous movie, Jurassic World Dominion, alongside original Jurassic Park stars Laura Dern, Jeff Goldblum and Sam Neill.

Earlier this week the Chancellor confirmed a 40 per cent relief on business rates for eligible film and TV studios, for a ten-year period until 2034, which is a boost for Hertfordshire's newest studios.

Managers at Sky Studios Elstree are currently waiting for planning permission for the proposed new northern site between Rowley Lane and the A1.

Hertsmere Borough Council is due to make its decision on the Sky Studios Elstree North expansion plans this year.

Following Jeremy Hunt's Spring Budget on Wednesday, Sky Group CEO Dana Strong said: “We’re delighted that the Chancellor called ‘Cut’ today on TV and film studio business rates, providing vital tax relief to enable the UK’s world-class film and TV production sector to continue to thrive.

“Today’s announcement brings confidence to the sector, unlocking job opportunities whilst providing a stable foundation for the investments of tomorrow in the UK, such as our proposal for Sky Studios Elstree North and the filming of NBCUniversal’s Jurassic 4.”

If approved, Sky Studios Elstree North is expected to create 2,000 jobs and bring an additional £2bn of production spend into the UK in the first five years alone.

The newly-opened Sky Studios Elstree has already created thousands of jobs, according to Sky.

The studios played host to the feature film adaptation of hit Broadway and West End musical Wicked starring Ariana Grande, Cynthia Erivo and Jeff Goldblum, and the latest Paddington sequel, Paddington 3, now officially titled Paddington in Peru.

A Sky Studios statement said: "Later this year we look forward to also welcoming Jurassic to film its fourth instalment of the hit franchise."
