The team at Chipping Barnet foodbank has moved to a new home in efforts to reach out to the wider community.

The move will coincide with public surgeries which are held on Tuesday and Thursdays.

Its new home will be at St Peter’s Parish Centre in Somerset Road, New Barnet.

The new centre has tea- and coffee-making facilities for both volunteers and clients.

Last year, Barnet was reported to have the fourth highest number of people using foodbanks in London.

The Trussell Trust charity has revealed that a total of 2,740 people received emergency food supplies between April and September 2015.

A reported 1,104 of children and 1,635 of adults relied on foodbanks.

George Demetri, publicity and communications coordinator for Chipping Barnet foodbank said: “The new centre is a terrific step forward for our operations and will make our often distressed clients feel more relaxed.

"They will benefit not only from this exciting new environment, but also the food parcels that are made possible by local supermarkets such as Waitrose stores in Whetstone and High Barnet, and Morrissons in Borehamwood.”
