Weeks of waiting came to an end as students across the county collected their GCSE results yesterday.

In Hertswood Academy, in Borehamwood, 63 per cent of students achieved five A* to C grades including maths and English – this is the highest ever result for the school.

As well in both maths and English the students achieved the highest ever results for the school, with the highest levels of progress in the two key subjects.

Christie Newton, who received six A*s and three As, said: “I am so very grateful for the support and encouragement I was able to receive over my time at Hertswood Academy.

“Thank you to everyone, I couldn’t be happier with my results.”

Head teacher Peter Gillett said: “We are delighted to announce our best-ever GCSE results for the fourth consecutive year with results well exceeding national standards.

“With both GCSE English and GCSE mathematics grades rising to 75 per cent A*to C and above for the first time we also achieved our highest ever value added score and progress 8 measure.

“Congratulations to our students and staff for their incredible hard work and dedication in achieving these results and many thanks to our parents for their outstanding support.”

A total of 82.4 per cent of students from Yavneh College, Borehamwood, achieved five A* to C grades and 45 per cent achieved A* to A grades, with 66 per cent getting A* to B.

Three students had outstanding performances with 9 A*s and 1 A – Nina Freedman, Zac Garcia and Erin Wacks – plus two students who got 8 A*s and 2As – Matti Brooks and Jamie Newman.

Head teacher Spencer Lewis said: “I am so pleased both for the pupils and their teachers, these grades are a result of a lot of hard work and there is so much of which to be really proud once again this year.

“These GCSE results and last week’s A Level results are a source of great pride for our entire school community.”

Some 57 per cent of Elstree UTC students achieved five GCSEs at A*-C including English and maths.

There was a 100 per cent pass rate in maths, additional science, 3D art, dance, graphics and photography.

More than 70 per cent of students made expected progress and above in maths, film studies, photography and in the Level 2 performing arts BTEC in light technology, hair and make-up and costume.

Head teacher Chris Mitchell said: “Elstree UTC is so proud to report such good GCSE results for 2016.

“There has been a lot of changes this year, new leadership, new curriculum model and a relentless focus on high-quality teaching, learning and student achievement.

“It is therefore absolutely brilliant to announce such considerable improvements.”

At Haberdashers’ Aske’s Boys’ School in Elstree, 73 per cent of all grades were an A* and 95.4 per cent were A*-A, this is an exceptional set of results for Haberdashers’ Aske’s Boys’ School in Elstree and marks a new level of excellence for the school.

A record 35 boys achieved 10 A* grades or more and 127 students achieved straight A*s-A grades.

Dillan Parmar, who received 10 A*s, said: “I’m ecstatic with my results.”

“Thanks to my teachers and also to my peers – we’ve built up a great camaraderie, especially within our form class.”
