A woman celebrated her 100th birthday surrounded by friends with an afternoon tea.

Margaret Newton lives at Slade Court in Radlett and residents came together on April 15 to celebrate her special birthday.

Food and drink was provided by the staff and friends were able to look at the birthday card Mrs Newton received from Her Majesty Queen Elizabeth II.

Mrs Newton and her husband, Christopher, have lived at the home for 22 years and she has worked as a nurse and a midwife.

Joanna Noakes, housing officer at Slade Court, said: “Margaret and Christopher have been with us for many years and everyone is very fond of them.

“It was a pleasure to arrange the special afternoon tea for Margaret so we could all celebrate her landmark birthday together with everyone here at Slade Court.”

Since 1955 Mrs Newton has lived in numerous towns across the Home Counties and also spent some of her life working in Canada.

Not to be left behind in the technical age, Mrs Newton has also recently learnt how to use an iPad and challenges herself by completing daily puzzles.
