A community centre in Borehamwood has reopened its doors despite a controversial history.

The Three Ways Community Centre, in Arundel Drive, in Borehamwood, had ongoing problems and issues that caused Hertsmere Borough Council to take action.

In 2011, the drinkers of the Arundel Social Club, which operates at the centre, were told that they had to leave the premises to allow refurbishments.

Now, the community centre has opened its doors for the public again as a new and improved building with hopes for bright future.

Peter Hopkins, co-owner of the pub, said: “It has been really busy since we first opened in January.

“We are a members bar now, meaning that you have to have a membership to come in and we have had about 16 new members already.

“Over the past few years, the bar had a lot of problems. We want people to know that we have taken over the business. We put in planning permission three years ago.

“We have added a new pool table, a bar, a function room which is the cheapest to hire in the whole of Borehamwood.

“We are up and running now and only started last week.”

The new and improved social club opened on January 22 for members only.
