A VINTAGE tea party bought a “bit of fun” back to a gloomy October day as a charity celebrated Older People’s Week.

Crossroads Care, in Studio Way, Borehamwood, invited people from the community to enjoy cakes and tea at Allum Hall, in Elstree, on Friday.

They were served tea from classy china teapots, enjoyed cake and a quiz on chocolate and sweets from days gone by.

Vickie August, operations manager at Crossroads, who organised the event, said: “Everybody had great fun – it was a real vintage afternoon and so good to see everyone mingling.

“There was such a buzz and a great atmosphere, and so much laughter. Everyone enjoyed it, it was wonderful.”

More than 60 older people turned up throughout the day to enjoy the activities and find out what services are available to them.

Staff volunteered their own time to be waitresses, wearing typical black trousers and white shirts.

Ms August added: “It’s very easy to forget when you aren’t in the sector, that older people aren’t necessarily ‘old people’.

“For me, people in their 70’s aren’t old. That’s why it’s nice and good for us to give everyone the chance to socialise and meet new people, as well as bringing a bit of fun back into an October day.”

Barbara Kennedy, chief executive, added: “The day was wonderful – it’s important to celebrate Older People’s Week.”
