A German mayor will visit Borehamwood to celebrate 40 years of twinning.

Elstree and Borehamwood has been twinned with the German twin town of Offenburg for nearly four decades.

Now the new Mayor of Offenburg, which calls itself the gateway to the Black Forest, is to make her first ever visit to the town.

Oberburgermeister Edith Schreiner will be accompanied by her husband and Klaus and Beate Teufel, of Offenburg twinning group Die Brucke (The Bridge) as they visit England, with trips to Elstree Film Studios and the Battle-Axes included in the itinerary.

Martine Eni, chairman of the Borehamwood and Elstree Twin Town Association said: "In France and Germany, the role of Mayor is one of real executive power - very different from the honorary status they have here.

“It is an honour for us to receive Frau Schreiner and to strengthen the chains that bind us in friendship.”
