Thousands of people are expected to attend a village fete which hopes to raise thousands of pounds for charities.

Guy and Nicky Beaton, of London Road, Shenley, have been organising the Shenley Fete for the past ten years.

After the nearby Radlett Festival had to be cancelled due to a lack of volunteers, Mr and Mrs Beaton hope more people will attend the Shenley Festival.

Mr Beaton said: “We never have too many volunteers but we’ve got enough and luckily we’ve never had to cancel.

“The nice thing about our committee is that there’s no animosity, everyone pulls in the same direction and it works very well.

“We will keep a village atmosphere - we haven’t gone too commercial.”

This year, the fete will include a woodchopping display as well as a falconry display, a bouncy castle, tea cup rides, a dog show, a Punch and Judy performance and electric go-karts.

Borehamwood 2000 FC will also attend and a range of food will be on offer.

It costs £1 to park on the field whilst entrance to the fete is 50p.

Last year, £5,000 in proceeds were donated to causes across the area and organisers hope to do the same this year.

Mr Beaton, a retired pilot, added: “Seeing a woodchopper in action is quite extraordinary so we hope that will be a hit on the day.

“Last year it was fantastic so hopefully this year will be the same.”

A stall pitch costs £30 for businesses and £15 for charities. Anyone interested should contact Guy Beaton on 01923 852841 for more information.

The fete will be held on Sunday, June 21 at the Harris Lane Playing Fields.
